Yes. Every calculator you open gets its own tab, with its own inputs, results and undo history, so working in one never disturbs another. Keep a mortgage, a car loan and a break-even open while you decide, and switch between them in the tab bar. Only the tab on screen is running; the others keep their values until you switch back.
Restore one from your history. Opening a calculator that is already open switches you to the tab you have rather than starting a second — which is what you want almost every time. When you restore a saved calculation and that calculator is already open, CalcTrail asks whether to replace the tab or open a new one; choosing a new one gives you two tabs of the same calculator. "Continue in another calculator" behaves the same way on purpose: it fills the tab you already have instead of leaving it behind, stale.
Yes. Your open tabs and their inputs are restored per workspace when you come back, so you can pick up where you left off.
Yes. Cmd/Ctrl + 1 through 9 jumps to a tab by its position in the tab bar.
The tab bar adds arrow controls and a tab counter so you can scroll through them. You can keep 10 tabs open per workspace without an account, and 20 with a free one — per workspace, so a second workspace starts its own count. At the limit CalcTrail asks you to close one rather than closing your oldest tab for you.
Yes. Open both in tabs, then in the second calculator click into a number field, then the button at its right end, and choose Open Tabs. Pick the value you want and it goes straight into the field. The value is copied, so changing the first tab later does not change the second.
Any single number that tab is showing, from its inputs or its results — a monthly payment, a maintenance calorie figure, a token count. The Unit Converter also offers your value in every unit of the category at once, so you can take the one you need without converting twice. The Basic, Scientific and RPN pads offer their current display and their recent calculations, and RPN its stack as well. Dates, ratios and text are grouped behind a single line so they do not crowd the numbers, and they cannot be inserted into a number field because they are not one.
Work it out in the Basic Calculator in another tab — a subtotal, a quick percentage — then click into your field, open the button at its right end and choose Open Tabs. The Basic Calculator offers its current display and its recent calculations, so the answer goes straight into the field without retyping it.
Yes. Beside every result there is a copy button, and when another calculator can use that number the button grows an arrow. Click the arrow to see where the number fits — the tabs you already have open first, then calculators you can open for it — and pick a field. Nothing is typed twice.
The field you picked, and whatever that calculator would change itself to show it: the unit beside the field is set to match the number you sent, and the tab moves to the mode that input belongs to. Before you click, the row shows what the field holds now and any change of mode, so you can see what you are replacing. The value is copied, so editing the original tab afterwards leaves it alone.
Because nothing could take that number. The arrow appears only when the value is a single number and some calculator has a field it fits, in a unit that field can be set to. A ratio, a date or a reading in a unit no calculator uses stays copyable but has nowhere to go. Destinations also stay on the subject you are working on, plus the Unit Converter, which is offered everywhere; an amount of money is the one value that is also offered to a different subject.
Use "Continue in another calculator", at the end of the result panel on calculators that have it. It lists the calculators that can carry on from what you have entered, and each row says what it will do with your values before you click — how many fields it fills, and how many of them already hold something. Pick one and it opens with those values in place. Your entries are copied across, not linked, so changing this tab afterwards leaves the other one alone.
Because a handoff is only offered where the second calculator genuinely starts from the first one's numbers — a loan and a car loan share a rate and a term, a body-weight figure feeds a calorie target. Where nothing carries across, there is no panel, and the related calculators listed at the foot of the page are plain links instead.
It is highlighted for a moment and scrolled into view, and with a mouse or trackpad it takes the keyboard focus so you can carry straight on typing. On a touch screen the focus is left alone, because moving it there would open the on-screen keyboard over the result you just sent.
Yes. A tab reopened from your history is marked as restored everywhere its values are offered, so an old figure is never mistaken for a live one. A tab showing someone else's shared calculation is view-only, so it is left out of these lists altogether — it is neither a place to send a value nor a source to take one from.
Each one is listed with the mode it is in and when you last edited it — "Refinance · edited 2 minutes ago" — and, when two tabs run the same calculator, its position in the tab bar.
Only the tab you are looking at is running, so a tab you have not opened since the page loaded has nothing to offer yet. Open it once and its values are available from then on.
