Information We Collect

Account Information: If you create an account, we collect your email address and any name you provide.
Usage Data: We collect information about how you use CalcTrail, including your calculations, workspaces, and preferences.
Search Queries: When you use Global Search, we store your search queries to improve search suggestions and personalize your experience. For guest users, search queries are stored locally in your browser (localStorage). For logged-in users, search queries are stored in our secure database and synced across your devices.
Device Information: We may collect information about your device, browser, and operating system for technical support purposes.

Google Analytics & Tracking

CalcTrail uses Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to understand how users interact with our platform and improve the service. Analytics tracking is enabled for all users (both guest and logged-in users).

What We Track

We track the following user activities:

Page Navigation: Pages and calculators you visit, navigation patterns and flow
Calculator Usage: Which calculators you open, when you perform calculations, save calculations, or close calculators
Tab Management: Opening and closing calculator tabs, switching between tabs
History Operations: Saving calculations to history, deleting history entries, restoring previous calculations, clearing workspace history
Variable Management: Creating custom variables, updating variables, deleting variables, importing variables from CSV
Workspace Management: Creating workspaces, switching between workspaces, deleting workspaces
Search Activity: Search query length (not the actual query text), number of search results, whether searches returned results, which search results you click on
Authentication: Account signups, user logins, user logouts
Error Tracking: Application errors (to help us fix bugs), error locations and types

What We Do NOT Track

We do NOT collect or send the following to Google Analytics:

Your name, email address, or phone number
Your actual calculation values or results
Your workspace names or variable names
Your full search queries sent to Google Analytics (queries are stored locally or in our database for search improvement, but not sent to Google Analytics)
Your user ID (we use hashed/anonymized identifiers)
Any personally identifiable information (PII)

Data Anonymization

All analytics data is anonymized:

IP Address: Anonymized by Google Analytics
User IDs: Hashed before sending (e.g., workspace IDs)
No PII: Personal information is never sent to Google Analytics

Your Rights

Note: The app is designed to work perfectly even if tracking is blocked. All features remain fully functional.

Guest Users: Consent is obtained through the Cookie Consent banner when you first visit the site.

Logged-In Users: Consent is obtained when you:

Agree to our Terms of Service (which includes analytics consent)

Cookie Storage:Your consent is stored in cookies for 13 months (standard period for analytics consent). When you return to the site, we check for your consent. If it's not found or has expired, we'll ask for consent again.

Data Storage

Your calculation data, workspaces, and settings are stored securely in our cloud infrastructure. For authenticated users, all data is encrypted in transit and at rest, and synced across all your devices. Guest users' data is stored locally in your browser only and is not transmitted to our servers.

Search Query Storage

Guest Users:Search queries are stored locally in your browser's localStorage. This data remains on your device and is never sent to our servers. You can clear this data at any time by clearing your browser's localStorage or disabling search tracking in Settings.
Logged-In Users: Search queries are stored in our secure database and synced across all your devices. This allows us to provide personalized search suggestions and improve your search experience. You can disable search tracking in Settings, and you can request deletion of your search history at any time.
Purpose: Search query storage is used solely to improve search functionality, provide personalized suggestions, and enhance your user experience. We do not use search queries for advertising or share them with third parties.
Control: You can disable search tracking at any time in Settings → Search Settings. When disabled, search queries are not stored, but search functionality remains fully available.

Data Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to third parties. We may share data only in these limited circumstances:

Service Providers: With trusted third-party services that help us operate CalcTrail (hosting, analytics, authentication)
Legal Requirements: When required by law, court order, or government request
Business Transfers: In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets (users will be notified)
