Aspect ratio is the proportional relationship between width and height (W:H). Common ratios: 16:9 (widescreen TV/monitors), 4:3 (older TV/photo), 1:1 (Instagram square), 9:16 (mobile Stories/Reels), 21:9 (ultrawide).

If you know the ratio and one dimension, use cross-multiplication: new height = (new width × ratio_height) / ratio_width. Example: scaling a 1920×1080 (16:9) image to 1280 wide: height = (1280 × 9) / 16 = 720. This calculator handles all conversions instantly.

YouTube recommends 16:9 (1920×1080 for Full HD, 3840×2160 for 4K). For YouTube Shorts, use 9:16 (1080×1920). Videos in other ratios will have letterboxing or pillarboxing added by YouTube automatically.

DPI = Pixels / Physical Size (inches). For example, a 3000×2000 pixel image printed at 10×6.67 inches = 300 DPI. Use DPI / Print mode — enter your print width, height, and DPI to get the exact pixel dimensions you need before ordering a print.

Use Ratio → Size mode to work out the crop dimensions: enter the target ratio (e.g. 16:9) and one side of your desired crop — the other side is calculated for you. You then crop your image in your photo editor to those exact dimensions, centered on the part of the photo you want to keep.

Use Compare mode: enter a shared base width and select the ratios you want to compare (e.g. 16:9, 4:3, 21:9). The calculator shows the resulting height and a visual box for each ratio side by side, so you can see how much taller or shorter each format is at the same width.

TikTok video and Instagram/Facebook Stories use 9:16. Pinterest pins use 2:3. LinkedIn link posts use 1.91:1 and LinkedIn cover photos use 4:1. Facebook cover photos are roughly 2.7:1. Pick a Platform Preset in any mode to fill these ratios in automatically instead of memorizing them.
