A weighted GPA assigns bonus points for honors, AP, or IB classes (e.g., A=5.0 instead of 4.0 on a 5.0 scale), rewarding students for taking more rigorous courses. An unweighted GPA caps at 4.0 regardless of course difficulty.

Selective colleges often look for a 3.7+ unweighted GPA. Mid-tier universities typically accept 3.0-3.5. Community colleges and open-enrollment schools accept all GPAs.
