Quick Start Guide

  1. Enter your expression: Type numbers, operators, and parentheses using the keypad or your keyboard.
  2. Use scientific functions: Tap sin, cos, tan, log, ln, or other function buttons to apply them to your input.
  3. Set the angle mode: Toggle Degrees or Radians before a trig calculation — it applies to the whole expression.
  4. Insert constants: Open the Constants menu for pi, e, phi, and common physical constants.
  5. Calculate your result: Press = or Enter to evaluate the expression.

Understanding the Scientific Calculator

Degrees vs. radians

The Deg/Rad toggle changes how sin, cos, tan, and their inverses interpret angle values — sin(30) is 0.5 in degree mode but a different number entirely in radian mode. Switch modes before entering a trig calculation, since it applies to the whole expression.

Function library

Beyond the four basic operators, this calculator covers trigonometric and inverse trigonometric functions, hyperbolic functions (under the collapsible Hyperbolic section), log (base 10), ln (natural log), exponents, square root, and factorial.

Constants menu

The Constants button inserts common values directly into your expression: the mathematical constants pi, e, and the golden ratio phi, plus physical constants — the speed of light, Planck’s constant, and Avogadro’s number.

Order of operations and unclosed parentheses

Expressions follow standard order of operations: parentheses first, then exponents, then multiplication and division, then addition and subtraction. If you press equals with an unclosed parenthesis, the calculator closes it automatically before evaluating.

History, reuse, and variables

Every calculation is saved to the history panel next to the keypad. From there you can reuse a past result inside a new expression, or save it as a named variable to use elsewhere in CalcTrail.

Memory keys

M+ adds the displayed number to memory, M− subtracts it, MR recalls the stored total, and MC clears it — handy for holding a subtotal while you work out another figure.

Frequently Asked Questions

Use the Angle Mode toggle above the keypad — Deg, Rad and Grad. It applies to every trigonometric key, forward and inverse, and the setting is saved with the tab. A right angle is 90 degrees, π/2 radians, or 100 gradians.
Yes — the Format control beside the display switches between Auto, Fix, Sci and Eng, with a digits box for how many places to keep. Fix pins every result to a set number of decimal places, Sci shows normalized scientific notation, and Eng uses engineering notation with exponents in multiples of three. The setting applies to the main display and the session history together, is saved with the tab, and works on phones — unlike the calculator in Google search results, which offers no display formatting at all.
Use the EE key, the same convention as TI and Casio handhelds: 3 EE 8 enters 3×10⁸. You can also use the 10ˣ key or type powers directly with the xʸ key. Pair it with the Sci display format to work in notation end to end.
